TYPOLOGY OF COASTAL AND MARINE AREA MANAGEMENT TOOLS
Coastal and marine space management policies have developed strongly in recent years under the impetus of local, basin or European initiatives. Nowadays, they take different forms through environmental contracts, coastal SAGE or marine protected areas.
Nowadays, almost the entire French Mediterranean coastline is covered by one or more of these approaches whose objectives are to :
- Fight against pollution to ensure excellent water quality ;
- Protecting marine biodiversity ;
- Reconcile coastal activities with good ecological status ;
- Restore historically degraded areas ;
- Improve knowledge, monitor and study the sea ;
- Inform and raise awareness of coastal issues.
